Andy Pilgrim Selected as
Grand Marshal of National Corvette Caravan
Racer to lead
thousands of Corvettes on 1,000-mile trek to Corvette 50th Anniversary
Celebration
DETROIT - Corvette Racing C5-R
competitor Andy Pilgrim has been chosen as Grand Marshal for the
National Corvette Caravan - Florida chapter. On June 24-26, 2003,
Pilgrim will lead the caravan from southern Florida to the National
Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky and on to the official
Chevrolet-sponsored Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration in
Nashville, Tennessee.
"It's a real honor to be selected to
lead this group of die-hard enthusiasts to Corvette's celebration in
Nashville. Corvette fans are truly like no other I have been around in
my racing career," said Pilgrim. Currently preparing for upcoming
endurance races including Sebring and Le Mans, Pilgrim is comfortable
with the long distance the caravan will travel. "I am used to long car
rides, however maintaining highway speed limits may require some self
control," Pilgrim quipped.
In Florida, groups will leave from
Tampa, Miami, and Orlando for a rendezvous in Lake City, Florida.
Pilgrim will lead the combined Caravan from Lake City on Tuesday, June
24 and stop at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on June 25 to make an
historic lap around the track. The group will likely double in size as
the Georgia and Florida caravans merge and head to the National
Corvette Museum in Bowling Green on June 26.
"We're absolutely thrilled to have Andy
Pilgrim lead our club members on this once-in-a-lifetime experience,"
said Roc Linkov, 50th Anniversary National Corvette Caravan Chairman.
"Andy is not just a world-class Corvette road racer, he's also an
automotive enthusiast that will take this role very seriously while
having fun at the same time."
Recently announced by Chevrolet as the
official Corvette Racing 50th Anniversary Program Representative,
Pilgrim will also interact with the considerable Corvette dealer base,
the Corvette Museum, Corvette clubs and special GM organized
functions, which will celebrate the 50th Anniversary on a national
level. In addition, Pilgrim will continue to drive in endurance races
with the two-time defending 24-Hour of Le Mans and American Le Mans
Series (ALMS) GTS Racing Championship Corvette Team.
The National Corvette Museum is the
overall host of the third National Corvette Caravan. Starting from the
borders of the continental United States and joined by participants
from all over the world, caravans will sweep across the country,
converging on Bowling Green, June 25 - 27 for special anniversary
events. There will be nonstop excitement along the way with numerous
activities as the caravans merge.
The caravans will then make their way
to Nashville on June 27 and 28 to take part in the Chevrolet-sponsored
Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration and a full slate of activities
at the two-day Corvette party. Following the Celebration, the National
Corvette Museum will host an array of exciting activities on June 29
and 30.
