Update
for the 2000 Model Year
You are in luck if you ordered a Millennium
Yellow 2000 C5.
It seems as though Chevrolet wants to get that color out to the public
as soon as possible. So while Magnetic
Red-II may have a 30 day
hold on it (while
they improve the formula - rumor says's a slightly darker color),
Millennium
Yellow (79U) is wide open,
and those orders in the order bank should be moving quickly.
There is some talk among the dealers
about heads up display being on constraint. The Registry has looked into
this, and from what we can tell, this was published in error. Head
Up Display (UV6) should be wide open. In fact, HUD's
availability to produce has been increased by 10% (Due to fixed roof
coupes and customers becoming excited and informed about this option).
The only constraint we know of is Magnetic
Red-II (86U). Beginning with
the 2000 model year, it will be on a 30-day constraint because of a
change in the paint formula and the factory wants to make sure of
quality control before the C5 is
painted. Our best guess is they are aiming to produce around 32% in C5
Convertibles. The remaining 60% for Coupes and 8% for Hardtops. These
production allocations can be changed from month to month as market
conditions dictate. This is a major change over the way it has been done
in the past (In past years, once the Corvette's production numbers were
set, they were in concrete for the entire model year).
As in the past three model years, there
are rumors out there that the 6-speed is on constraint, but I have
confirmed that this is not so. Depending on the order flow, there may
weeks where there are more 6-speeds available than orders. The following
week, the opposite may be true, but this will even out over 4-week order
period. There are a few dealers out there who are using a 6-speed
constraint rumor to increase the premium they charge over MSRP. If you
run into that problem, let us know, and we'll be glad to put you in
touch with a dealer who is not playing those games.
To sum up, the only constraint we see for
model year 2000 is Magnetic
Red-II paint for 30 days and
possibly a shortage of convertibles if the initial orders exceed 32% of
production. Both of these factors should easily be taken care of within
the first few months of production. |
